Common Mistakes Candidates Made in Job Interviews

With pressure and stress may be causing some job seekers to make mistakes during their interviews that could cost them the job. A new nationwide CareerBuilder survey of more than 2,400 hiring managers conducted November 15 to December 2, 2010, reveals the outrageous and common mistakes that some candidates have made in job interviews.

When asked what the most outrageous blunders they had encountered interviewing candidates were, hiring managers reported the following:

  • Provided a detailed listing of how previous employer made them mad.
  • Hugged hiring manager at the end of the interview.
  • Ate all the candy from the candy bowl while trying to answer questions.
  • Constantly bad mouthed spouse.
  • Blew her nose and lined up the used tissues on the table in front of her.
  • Brought a copy of their college diploma that was obviously fake.
  • Wore a hat that said, “Take this job and shove it.”
  • Talked about how an affair cost him a previous job.
  • Threw his beer can in the outside trashcan before coming into the reception office.
  • Had a friend come in and ask “HOW MUCH LONGER?”
  • In addition to the most unusual gaffes, employers shared the most common mistakes candidates made during an interview:
  • Answering a cell phone or texting during the interview – 71%
  • Dressing inappropriately – 69%
  • Appearing disinterested – 69%
  • Appearing arrogant – 66%
  • Speaking negatively about a current or previous employer – 63%
  • Chewing gum – 59%
  • Not providing specific answers – 35%
  • Not asking good questions – 32%

“The good news is that the number of open jobs continues to improve month over month; however competition will remain high for some time to come,” said Rosemary Haefner, vice president of human resources for CareerBuilder. “The goal of any interview is to stand out from the other candidates and ultimately land the job, but make sure you stand out for the right reasons. Even though the job search process can be frustrating, candidates should stay positive, focus on their strengths and be prepared on how to best sell their skill set.”

Haefner offers the following tips for successful interviews in a competitive job market:

§  Keep it upbeat: Many job seekers may be experiencing tougher than usual job searches in this economy. Even if your job search process has been frustrating, do what you can to remain positive and upbeat.

§  Prepare, prepare, prepare: Before the interview, research the company by looking at the press room for recent announcements, the About Us section for company culture, and the list of products so you are familiar with their offerings. Having this knowledge will allow you to easily answer and ask questions during the interview.

§  Keep it professional, not personal: Don’t let business decorum disappear even in the interview is in a casual setting. Refrain from discussing over-the-top personal issues and focus on the position and selling yourself.

§  Practice does make perfect: Nerves are likely to rear their head in an interview, so help calm them ahead of time by practicing. Go through common interview questions with a friend or family member and practice in front of a mirror so you can see read your body language.

§  Honesty is the best policy: If questions come up that you don’t know how to answer, don’t lie or pretend you know. Admit that you may not know the answer, but then explain how you would go about finding a solution, proving your resourcefulness.

How to deal with family drama?

Families, everyone got one whether you like it or not.  Sometime people are not so thrilled about family because of drama.  Do you know how much drama is going on behind the scenes in a family around you?  There are many causes.  Envy, jealousy, mis-communication, generation differences and etc.  What every cause though,  my two recommended solutions are Love and Peace.  Keep this in mind and it will makes everyone life easier in helping with family drama.

First, I will discuss on using love as a strategy to deal with family drama.  This is well fix because of Love will allow us to cooling off time during the drama.  Let’s think why people tense to creating family drama.  Well, Ego leads us to self center behavior.  Individual often stuck to themselves only rather thinking of bigger picture.  If we use love by walking them through the darkness and I bet it will eliminated family drama.

Lastly, I will tell you on using Peace as a strategy.   This is best suited to family drama because it will ease our mind.  As we know stress in one of part of person life to interaction of family. The pressure of the work or lack of job makes the person constantly in the bad mood and uneasy.  I’d recommend use peace on this.  Try to see where the other person come from.  This will help to keep perspective on things and reduce the amount of family drama that might otherwise happen in your life.

Understood, it is hard to predict where or when it will happen but if we keep these tips in mind.  It may help on dealing with it.  Life it just too short to with family drama.  Cheer!

Most of us feel short with the economy collapse.  With that means there are many evil and yet smart people that jobless who are trying to crack their head to create scamps to get easy $ in many way as they could.  Guess the subscribe on behalf of other will be one of the scamps.

I feel awkward as I’ve been received the US Weekly magazine without the knowledge of subscribe.  Thus I go online and check on US Weekly website if I can find more info.  Well, it appeared I have an account there with my complete info and it appeared that I order for $250 of those magazine.

Uhg that’s doesn’t looks good. Thus I called US Weekly Customer Service and I was told the 3rd party subscribe for me where I can’t even canceled it.    But they did gave me the 3rd party company name which is Priority One Clearing.  Spoke to POC customer service and I was told they are just a fulfillment company and they got the order from Family Reader Service.  It’s drive me to the edge and I reach out the customer service.  Unfortunately, they can’t answer my question but they just said it was a free magazine for you.  Well, I told them stop sending the magazine to me.  I will definitely follow up in one week time to ensure that the account cancel off.

No Phone Zone!

I am very impressed that Oprah took her celebrity power to go for the ‘No Phone Zone’ campaign to bring awareness of  No Phone Zone pledge.  Seriously, just too many lives had been shorten simply because of people using cell while driving.

There is no doubt, cell phone plays a hug roll in our daily life.  In fact, the kids under 10 years old, grandpa and grandma will also have the cool gadget so ‘Cell Phone’.  However, the smart phone in these days has the cool feature and allow the user to send SMS, GPS navigating, browsing web and may more apps!  In additional, it has the great sound system as well.  The latest Apple Ipod Touch has 64GM and Nexus One by Google has all then Google Apps.

It’s a nature, things come bad and good!  And it came down to how the user operating it.  Although, the hands free driving and ban texting band for teenager law had been enacted in many States.  Sadly, many of them out there still ignore the law.  (still chatting on the cell without headset, texting and browsing web while driving)

Let’s hope people pause and think if is it worth to continue to such a behavior.   Also, feel free to sign up for No Phone Zone. http://www.oprah.com/packages/no-phone-zone.html

Why not after all it’s free!
